Dear Sir or Madame,
My wife, Velda Marie Snow Dennis, DOB 3/10/2023, has a known serious medical condition called tachycardia arrhythmia which was either a congenital birth defect, disease, or condition, or was brought about by her extensive methamphetamine abuse. As the medical reports state, it is probably her left ventricle and is caused by excessive heart muscle growth in that heart chamber.
In spite of knowing the risks associated with continued methamphetamine use, Velda has chosen against medical advice to use methamphetamine. She has also, against expert medical advice, chosen not to go to the Human Service Center in Yankton, South Dakota, where she could receive the best counseling that the Great State of South Dakota has to offer.
Velda has long-standing mental health issues that require long-term care, and committal at this time is the least restrictive alternative to protect Velda from harming herself.
See attached medical reports (report dated March 18th, 2023, "Urine Drug Screen Medical" and February 18th, 2023, "History & Physical").
In addition to the above, Velda has also been making credible threats against me. Velda spreads malicious rumors about me which incite others to act with violence and aggression toward me. She admitted this to me, and I have one witness who will testify that Velda solicited him to rob me and injure me. The witness is Brian Niedan and may be reached by phone at (605) 608-0606.
Velda also stole Brian's laptop, stole his roommate's jewelry, took a hammer and destroyed his car, solicited him for sex in exchange for money and drugs, and made threats to harm herself and others, including making threats against Brian.
Velda, because she is unemployed and in spite of being married, has resorted to prostitution to get her drug fix, putting her at risk of serious injury to herself and others, and shunning her husband who has been taking care of her and her needs since she became impaired.
Velda has also resorted to theft of other persons' property.
I believe that Velda is a serious threat to herself and has an extensive history of both violent acts toward others and suicide attempts. She has suicidal ideation as well as homicidal ideation.
Velda has a lengthy history of arrests for domestic violence against myself.
It is my opinion that Velda requires long-term hospitalization in a secured and structured inpatient environment where her mental health issues could be addressed by professionals.
Her repeated behaviors show a continuing pattern of disrespect for authority in her defiance, as seen in the numerous police reports that were received in the short time Velda has resided in Rapid City, South Dakota. In addition to the recent calls, there is a history going back to Sturgis, South Dakota, where they are familiar with my wife, Velda Snow.
I would not be doing this now if I did not feel that this were the best option for her, and I am asking that a detox hold be placed on her and arrangements be made to have Velda Marie Snow Dennis committed to the Human Services Center in Yankton, South Dakota, for an indeterminate period of time until she is stable mentally.
