- Present at Kim’s house as her boyfriend.
- Meets Velda for the first time through Kim.
Dean
- Not present at Kim’s and not involved in this meeting.

CPS
- Monitoring “instability” in the marriage from a distance.

Kim
- Sees Velda around Michael at her place.
- Does not yet fully grasp how dangerous he is.
Velda
- Gets caught cheating / stepping out.
- Feels panic, shame, and fear of losing Dean.
Michael
- Notices Velda’s vulnerability and marital instability.
- Begins to see her as a potential new target.
Dean
- Confronts the cheating and the chaos around it.
- Still has not directly interacted with Michael.
CPS
- Uses the marital instability as justification to maintain control over Travis.
- Still focused on “Dean and Velda” as the only relevant adults.
Kim
- Continues in a relationship with Michael.
- Tension and unease begin to grow beneath the surface.
Velda
- Returns to Dean, apologizing and expressing a desire to fix things.
- Agrees to counseling and attempts to stabilize.
Michael
- Still “Kim’s boyfriend” on paper.
- Now fully aware of Velda as a vulnerable married woman in crisis.
Dean
- Accepts Velda back and pushes for counseling and structure.
- Still no direct involvement with Michael at this stage.
CPS
- Views the marriage as unstable, justifying continued removal of Travis.
- Still does not know that Michael exists or is circling the situation.
Kim
- Growing uneasy with Michael’s behavior.
- Leans on Velda’s opinion as a friend.
Velda
- Clearly tells Kim: “Michael is dangerous. You should leave him.”
- Accurately interprets his behavior; this is a key moment of clarity.
Michael
- Displays controlling, aggressive, or unstable behavior.
- Has not yet threatened Dean directly.
Dean
- Not present for anything that happens between Kim, Velda, and Michael.
- Only hears fragments second-hand, if at all.
CPS
- Still locked onto Dean as the “problem man.”
- Still completely unaware Michael exists.
Kim
- Breaks up with Michael based on Velda’s warning and her own instincts.
- Her actions confirm that Velda’s assessment of danger was believable.
Velda
- Has clearly labeled Michael as dangerous.
- Does not yet realize she has just spoken the truth that will later contradict her own future narrative.
Michael
- Feels rejected, exposed, and angry when Kim leaves him.
- Looks for another way back into the drama.
Dean
- Still not directly involved with Michael.
- Focused on marriage, survival, and CPS pressure.
CPS
- Still has zero data on Michael.
- Still treating the situation as if only Dean and Velda exist.
Kim
- Steps away from the situation, out of Michael’s orbit.
- Becomes a potential witness to his instability and Velda’s early warning.
Velda
- Vulnerable: marriage fragile, CPS pressure intense, self-worth low.
- Becomes the new target of Michael’s manipulation and attention.
Michael
- Fixates on a married, vulnerable woman: Velda.
- Begins pushing boundaries and inserting himself deeper into her life.
Dean
- Still not aware of how far Michael has moved into Velda’s orbit.
- Has no control over that connection.
CPS
- Continuing to frame the story as “problems with Dean.”
- Still not tracking Michael’s presence at all.
Kim
- Now clearly sees Michael as unstable and vindictive.
- Can look back and see Velda’s warning in a harsher light.
Velda
- Caught between her earlier recognition of danger and his current attention.
- Begins to fracture more under manipulation and fear.
Michael
- Directly threatens Dean for the first time.
- Shows his true nature as a predator and aggressor.
Dean
- Finally becomes aware of Michael as an active, dangerous figure.
- Up to now, had never seen Michael’s behavior firsthand.
CPS
- Still has not identified Michael as a relevant actor.
- Still building its case narrative around Dean as the central “risk.”
Kim
- Now a key witness who could confirm:
- • Velda’s early warning about Michael.
- • Michael’s instability.
Velda
- Under extreme pressure and mentally unstable.
- Begins contradicting her own earlier truth about Michael and about Dean.
Michael
- Still operating in the background.
- Continues destabilizing Velda while staying off CPS’s radar.
Dean
- Becomes the primary focus of CPS scrutiny.
- Marked as a problem even though he did not create the danger around Michael.
CPS
- Ignores Velda’s original, unpressured identification of Michael as dangerous.
- Misidentifies the true threat and targets the wrong man.
Key Truth: Velda identified Michael as dangerous to Kim
before he ever threatened Dean and before CPS knew he existed. Kim acted on that warning and left him.
Later, under pressure and instability, Velda contradicted her own earlier truth.
CPS ignored the real predator (Michael) and focused on Dean, a man who was not even present
when the danger first emerged.
