South Dakota Grandparents Under Investigation

Community demands answers as CPS and family members face allegations of false reporting and child abduction

Investigation Unfolds

Authorities in South Dakota have launched an investigation into Robin Lynn Chipowsky and Andrew Joel Chipowsky, who are accused of kidnapping their grandchildren, Gabriel Damien and Trinity Marie Chipowsky, from their mother, Jamie Lynn Chipowsky.

Sources close to the case allege that the couple made false statements and fabricated reports to Child Protective Services (CPS), resulting in the children being removed from their mother under false pretenses. CPS itself is now reportedly under investigation for its role in the matter.

Children Speak Out

In an emotional interview, Trinity Marie Chipowsky, now older and reflecting on her childhood, spoke about the confusion, fear, and betrayal she felt growing up under what she now understands were false accusations.

“I remember the day everything changed,” Trinity said. “We were told that Mom had done something bad… but she didn’t. We were scared, taken away in a car, questioned by strangers, and told not to talk about it. For years, I thought that was normal.”

Her older brother, Gabriel, who spent a longer period living with their grandparents, reportedly struggled with what experts have described as “psychological manipulation” and conflicting loyalties. “It took time,” Trinity explained. “He was older, and they made him believe things about Mom that weren’t true. But now, we both see it for what it was.”

Questions Raised

The case has triggered a wave of public outrage across South Dakota and beyond. Many are asking how such a situation could occur under the supervision of CPS — an agency designed to protect children. Legal advocate Billie Kidder has called for an independent investigation, citing systemic failures and corruption.

“When grandparents can fabricate stories and CPS acts on them without verifying facts, that’s not protection — that’s abuse of authority,” said Kidder.

Community members and legal observers have described the case as a “wake-up call” about accountability in child protective investigations.

The public demands justice for Trinity and Gabriel — and accountability for those responsible.
